The Centres Culturels de Rencontre network

Monuments awarded the label Centres Culturels de Rencontre (Centers for Cultural Encounters) are historic buildings that have since lost their original function. Once restored, them serve as sites for multidisciplinary artistic projects, like conferences, music, exhibitions, and theatrical productions. This reappropriation of space provides a unique opportunity to combine the preservation of heritage buildings with cultural development, in a virtuous cycle of cultural ideas and projects.

The Centres Culturels de Rencontre label is thus distinguished by the strength of associated artistic, cultural and intellectual projects, exisiting in synergy with a heritage site of major significance which lends itself naturally to artistic creation, transmission, research and innovation, and forges close links between a variety of different audiences and regions. The Association des Centres Culturels de Rencontre (ACCR), founded in January 1973 to organize and coordinate their various actions, was formally accorded charitable organization status in 1983.
